Google continues to develop AI technology, in its various applications including Meet. Reportedly, the Google Meet development team is testing AI technology that can adjust the user’s background during a video call.
This feature was first revealed by the Twitter account Artem Russakovskii. The netizen with the @ArtemR account explained that Google Meet is working on a feature that can change the user’s virtual space with an AI-made background.
“Google Meet is starting to roll out AI background image support. In Google Meet, you can use the ‘Generate a background’ command to create a background image using artificial intelligence. For example, you can ask Google Meet to create an illustration of a magical forest,” wrote Artem.

By offering a personalized environment that suits individual preferences, this feature enhances the visual appeal of virtual meetings and makes the experience more engaging.
For best results, Google recommends including details about style, mood, settings, and objects in the environment when describing how you want your background to look. Users can iterate and make different samples until they are satisfied with the results.
It is important to note that Google emphasizes the need to avoid including personal, confidential or sensitive information when using this feature to ensure data privacy and security.
According to XDA, this AI-generated background feature is part of Google’s broader efforts to improve Google Meet, which includes recent enhancements such as the introduction of 1080p video resolution, picture-in-picture modes, and various video effects.
Additionally, in a recent update Google Workspace Education Plus customers can accommodate up to 1,000 participants and focus their meeting view on the presenter while hiding the video feed of distracting attendees.
