Menkominfo Budi Claims 846,047 Online Gambling Content Has Been Deleted

The Ministry of Communication and Informatics (Kominfo), in this case the Minister of Communication and Information Budi Are claims to have terminated access or deleted 846,047 online gambling content on websites and social media platforms.
Through a press conference that was broadcast virtually on YouTube Kominfo on Thursday (20/07/2023), Menkominfo Budi Arie Setiadi emphasized that the termination was a firm step in dealing with the spread of online gambling content.
“From 2018 to 19 July 2023, it means that yesterday, the Ministry of Communication and Informatics has terminated access or takedown 846,047 online gambling content,” claimed Budi Arie.
Furthermore, Budi Arie Setiadi stated that the Ministry of Communication and Information has and will continue to take firm steps for online gambling content, both in terms of gambling content and activities to facilitate online gambling transactions.
“Even in the last week, from 13 to 19 July 2023, the Ministry of Communication and Informatics has cut off access to 11,333 online gambling content,” he said.
The Minister of Communication and Information Budi explained that the implementation of termination of access to online gambling was carried out based on the findings of the Ministry of Communication and Information’s cyber patrol. Apart from that, based on content complaints originating from the general public and ministries and institutions.

“The discovery is continued with the verification stage and requests for recommendations from relevant ministries and agencies to ensure that content contains content that violates laws and regulations,” said Budi.
He also stated that the Ministry of Communication and Informatics could make immediate termination of gambling content. So that it can easily eradicate disturbing content, so that it cannot be accessed by the public.
“If the content is on a site, Kominfo will immediately terminate access. For content on social media platforms, Kominfo will ask platform managers to remove gambling content. If the platform refuses to delete it, it will be subject to sanctions according to the applicable laws and regulations,” he said.
The handling of content containing elements of gambling is carried out in accordance with the provisions of Law no. 11 of 2008 concerning Information and Electronic Transactions which have been amended through Law no. 19 of 2016 (UU ITE) Article 27 paragraph (2).

In addition, the Ministry of Communication and Informatics also makes terminations based on Government Regulation no. 71 of 2019 concerning the Implementation of the Electronic Transaction System (PP PSTE) and Ministerial Regulation No. 5 of 2020 concerning Private Electronic System Operators and their amendment regulations (Private PSE PM), specifically Article 13 and Article 15.
